Ceri Williams (CW). How's it going Scad?
BMJ. Tell us about 'Checkin out Chet'.
CW. Well I've always loved his sound and nobody sings quite like he does - and I wanted to do some of his stuff as I think he's the most lyrical player of all. I started playing with Jayne, Julian and Greg about 18 months ago in various bands. Julian is so tasty, Jayne has immaculate time and Greg is a master and so I got a pad together, we had a rehearsal and that was it. We've had a couple of knocks in Sebastopol and we've got ones coming up in the Millenium Centre, Swansea Jazzland and The Old Duke in Bristol …
CW. No, I've being bumbling along doing this and that with allsorts for ages but teaching is my main activity these days.
BMJ. Tell us a little more about the band members, What's your line-up?
CW. Well, apart froms yours truly, on bass is the fabulously rhythmical and incredibly delicious Jayne Gregory. She recently performed with Italian pianist Davide Logiri, Andrew Fawcett of Cowbridge, and Greg (of Malpas) in Cafe Jazz, and played out of her skin, she plays with Glen Manby and Julian regularly. Greg Evans on drums is the top man, and Julian Martin is an active composer and educator.
CW. Hopefully we'll do so something in the summer if our timetables allow.
BMJ. Well thanks for talking to me Ceri, I'm looking forward to seeing you at BMJ on 6 May.
CW.Cheers Scad, been good to catch up, see you then.
