The
James Chadwick Trio - Sunday 1 July
James
Chadwick’s long awaited debut gig at the BMJ was well
received by our regular members – seeing familiar faces
every fortnight has certainly made the club a very sociable
evening to look forward to.
And what a good night we had with the very affable Mr
Chadwick providing us with his trademark style of modern
jazz guitar.
He started
the first set with a selection of jazz standards and then
introduced tunes from his album ‘Undercurrent’. Chadwick
has a unique way of playing melody and I for one was
intrigued by this and also the way he weaved his solos,
very thoughtful and beautifully executed. On drums for the
evening was the multi-talented and again thoroughly nice
chap Lee Goodall, who surprised our members with a great
display of jazz drumming.
Paula
Gardiner was Chadwick’s choice for bass player and I can
see why – she’s a great all rounder and was used
extensively as a soloist, rousing the crowd on many of her
thoughtful and dynamic solos.
BMJ’s policy of providing a platform for local jazz talent
is proving to be very popular with our regular members, but
we need your continued support. So please spread the word,
tell your friends, display a poster!!
